The concept for the revolutionary headrest technology all started when Kim Tat, Senior Product Manager for Maxi-Cosi in Australia, came up with the idea while traveling in economy class. “It is really uncomfortable to travel anywhere outside of Australia on a long-haul flight in economy. I realized that little toddlers must have been feeling the same way I did.”
Kim’s trip and realization coincided with the business strategy at the time, of looking to develop a ‘Type G car seat,’ a fully harnessed car seat from 6 months to 8-10 years.
The Maxi-Cosi Luna was born
The headrest feature and technology behind it is second to none. Kim explains: “It’s the first headrest design in the world that has active headrest wings to provide extra comfort when the child falls asleep. The engineering is the best in our range of seats in the Australian market.”
What’s more is the new crotch buckle design (patent pending) that allows for the adjustment of both the crotch depth and height in one action to accommodate a child as it grows and make it easier for parents to adjust. As Alan Tanner, Research & Development Manager for Maxi-Cosi confirms, “the seat design provides easier installation and more comfort for children of different sizes.” Creating such intuitive, innovative and comfortable products for children is at the heart of Maxi-Cosi’s core values and driving purposes—to happily move children and their families into the future.
“This whole seat is a perfect example of our great team work,” adds Mark Purchas, Technical Engineer for Maxi-Cosi. “We combined our skills to create a car seat that exceeded all of our expectations in every area—safety, child comfort, super-easy vehicle installation, superior dynamic performance and aesthetics.”
The launch of the Maxi-Cosi Luna has been a big hit in the retail trade so far. Good Design Australia announced the 2017 Good Design Selections marking the countdown to Australia’s most prestigious awards for design and innovation that will take place on June 8, 2017. Maxi-Cosi Luna Car Seat was one of only 244 entries to receive the 2017 Good Design® Selection. It is now in the running to receive the coveted Australian Good Design Award, which will be announced at the June Good Design Awards Ceremony.
